Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church

1. Before requesting baptism, Parents/Legal Guardians must know that,
   • at least one must be Parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (Our Lady) in good standing for a minimum of 6(six) full months.
   • at least one parent must be Catholic.
   • they are the petitioners for the baptism of a minor, only.
   • if they belong to other parish and wish to baptize at Our Lady, they must bring Letter to Baptize outside of the Parish signed by their Pastor. They must attend Mass at Our Lady for a minimum of 6(six) full months.
   • to be in good standing means to be registered and support Our Lady financially (use their envelopes for their Sunday Collection).
   • parishioners in good standing may request the Sacrament of Baptism at least 1(one) month prior to desired date.
2. English Baptisms are celebrated on the first and third Saturday of the month at 11:00 am.
3. Spanish Baptisms are celebrated on the first and third Sunday of the month after the 1:00 mass.
4. Godparents: the Catholic Church requires 1(one) godparent. If Parents/Legal Guardians prefer 2(two) godparents, they must be a man and a woman. Both must be practicing Catholics (attend Sunday Mass and receive Holy Communion), at least 18 years old, and sign the form called “Godparent Covenant.”

Step 1: Parents/Legal Guardians preparation:

1. Register as a parishioner or call the Parish Office to confirm you are already a registered parishioner in good standing.
2. Request one application per child you wish to baptize.

Step 2: Bring to the Parish Office:

1. Parents/Legal Guardians evidence of good standing, Baptismal Application, and copy of child’s Birth Certificate (court issued) for review.
2. Make an appointment with the Priest and submmit reviewed application for Father’s approval.
3. Register Parents/Legal Guardians and Godparents for
   • Pre-Baptismal Class on the Third Tuesday of the month, 6:30 - 8:30pm in the JB Center. (No children allowed.)
   • Or evidence that pre-baptismal classes have been taken.
   • Parents/Legal Guardians and/or Godparents taking the class but not baptizing at Our Lady, must register for the class at the Parish Office prior to attending class. Certificates will be ready for pick up at the Parish Office after Mass the third Sunday of the month.
   • All attending pre-baptismal classes must bring a Bible.
   • Godparent(s) must declare his/her/their church status and sign “Godparent Covenant.” If Godparent(s) are Married he/she/they must be married by the Church [even if not baptizing with spouse.] If Godparent(s) is single, he/she/they must be Confirmed.

Step 3: Set up date of Baptism:

1. Parents/Legal Guardians must submmit application to the Pastor (baptism dates are approved by Pastor, only!).
